Kenyans Biwott, Keitany win NYC marathon

Stanley Biwott and Mary Keitany have won the men's and women's New York marathons in a Kenyan double.

Stanley Biwott and Mary Keitany won the men's and women's New York marathons in a Kenyan double on Sunday.

Biwott, 29, celebrated the biggest win of his career by taking the men's title in 2 hours 10 minutes 34 seconds, finishing 14 seconds ahead of compatriot Geoffrey Kamworor.

This year's Boston marathon winner Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia was third in 2:12:10, while title holder Wilson Kipsang of Kenya came in fourth.

Biwott becomes the 11th Kenyan to win the world's largest marathon race.

Last year's winner Keitany clocked 2:24:25 to win the women's race, 67 seconds ahead of Ethiopia's Aselefech Mergia, with Ethiopia's Tigist Tufa, this year's London marathon winner, third.

Keitany is the first athlete since Britain's Paula Radcliffe in 2008 to defend her New York title.
