Kerber round-one Open rival ill in Hobart

Lesia Tsurenko has withdrawn from the Hobart International, days before she's due to meet world No.1 Angelique Kerber at the Australian Open.

Just days before meeting world No.1 Angelique Kerber in the first round of the Australian Open, Lesia Tsurenko has withdrawn from the Hobart International.

The Ukranian on Friday said she was suffering a viral illness and would not contest her semi-final against Monica Niculescu, due to be played in the evening session.

After withdrawing from the Brisbane International with a similar complaint, 61st-ranked Tsurenko won three matches in Hobart.
