Inspired by Queensland's all-conquering State of Origin team, Samu Kerevi wants the Reds to begin a period of Super Rugby dominance over the NSW Waratahs on Saturday night.
Kerevi, who will serve as Reds captain for the rest of the season, was born and raised in Fiji but supported the Maroons when he moved to Australia and said he loved their uncompromising attitude.
"That eight-year drought was something I was really happy about," Kerevi told reporters on Friday.
"They dominated for 10 years in State of Origin and we want to build that kind of mentality here in union.
"I wanted (NSW) to lose. We always hated NSW.

"I think it's been missing because with the conference system we may only play one or two games against them a year.
"For us, being able to play that one game makes it much more important.
"Personally, I haven't beaten NSW and it's something I really want to change."
Kerevi's Maroons heroes included Fijian flyer Lote Tuqiri as well as Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau, who will turn out on opposite sides at Suncorp Stadium.
Super Rugby history suggests if the Reds snap their six-match losing streak to the Tahs, momentum in the rivalry will swing their way.
The Reds went undefeated through their first nine matches against the Waratahs since the advent of the competition in 1996.
NSW then won the next seven in a row before Queensland returned fire with a five-match winning run, with their last victory coming in July 2013.
Both teams desperately need a win to stay in the hunt for an automatic finals berth, which goes to the winners of the struggling Australian conference.
Kerevi is wary of NSW's response following an embarrassing defeat to the Southern Kings last week, which has turned the blowtorch onto coach Daryl Gibson and his senior players.
"I think it definitely makes them unpredictable," Kerevi said.
"They'll come out with a lot of heart wanting to change the result from last week. It's going to be a tough game - we're not taking them lightly."
Kerevi said it was a "massive blessing" to skipper the Reds for the rest of the season, in the absence of James Slipper and with the blessing of coach Nick Stiles and Wallabies captain Stephen Moore, who returns to their starting side this week at hooker.
"I still do the same things I do every week, I prepare the same well, but I've just got that C next to my name," he said.
