Brendan Kerry has claimed Australia's first figure skating berth at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Kerry, who is based in the US, qualified Australia a spot in the men's Olympic competition next year after finishing 15th at the World Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki on Saturday (Sunday AEST).

If the 22-year-old Sydney-born skater is selected to fill the spot by Australian authorities it will be his second Olympic campaign following his debut in Sochi in 2014.

Newly crowned World Junior Champions Harley Windsor and Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya finished just outside Olympic qualification with a 16th place earlier in the competition while Newcastle skater Kailani Craine also fell short with a ranking of 24.

They will get a second shot at grabbing an Olympic spot at the final International Skating Union qualifying event in September.
