Key points of the mental health shake-up

What's included in the federal government's mental health shake-up.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S MENTAL HEALTH SHAKE-UP:

* No new money, just shifting existing funds.

* Stepped care model - different levels of primary care treatment and support depending on level of need.

* Government's 31 Primary Health Networks funded to deliver services instead of Canberra

- $365m redirected in 2016/17

- $370m in 2017/18

- $385m in 2018/19.

* $85 million (over three years) earmarked for indigenous mental health.

* One-stop-shop mental health help phone line and online portal.

* Individualised care packages for those assessed by a GP as having severe and complex mental illness.

* Existing Medicare Better Access program, funding 10 annual visits to a clinical psychologist, to remain an option

* Resources for teachers to recognise and prevent mental health problems.

* Rolled out between 2016 and 2019.
