Key policy amendments from ALP conference

A snapshot of changes to Labor's policy platform from the second day of the ALP national conference in Adelaide.

AMENDMENTS TO LABOR'S POLICY PLATFORM DECIDED AT CONFERENCE

* Accept New Zealand's offer to resettle refugees by negotiating an agreement on similar terms as the United States agreement

* Appoint a special envoy for refugee and asylum seeker issues with responsibilities for advancing Australia's interests and ensuring Australia plays a global role in the resettlement of displaced people.

* Refer the United Nations Global Compact on Migration for consideration through the proper parliamentary committee process

* People seeking asylum will have means-tested access to funded migration assistance, and to appropriate social services during the assessment of the claim for protection

* Run a root-and-branch review of the Productivity Commission to ensure it is fit for purpose

* Re-establish the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal

* Implement the National Redress Scheme including agreement from states on maximum payment, access for prisoners and indexation of past payments

* Hold institutions to account for their participation and conduct under the redress scheme

* Restore funding through Federal Assistance Grants program including indexing these annually to a minimum of CPI

* Implement new foreign seafarer visa requirements incorporating labour market testing

* Look at ways to make sure people who want to get bills in the mail rather than online don't get charged unfair fees
