Key quotes as Turnbull, premiers meet

The Council of Australian Governments has delivered some colourful comments.

WHAT THEY SAID AT COAG:

"It is withdrawn."

- Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull kills his idea for the states to levy income tax.

"We are not wedded to the full Gonski."

Turnbull on the school funding stalemate.

"NSW will continue to argue for (Gonski) funding."

- NSW Premier Mike Baird on school funding stalemate.

"Seventy per cent of kids go to a government school and the state governments fund 85 to 95 per cent of government schools. We might as well clean that up."

- WA Premier Colin Barnett on whether the commonwealth should stop funding public schools.

"There's no politely explaining away the fact that billions of dollars will not be flowing to hospitals in my state."

- Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on extra hospital cash.

"That is a good first step. There is still a huge gap and that means it's going to place a huge strain on our hospitals."

- Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on extra hospital cash.

"There is a revenue problem in this nation."

- SA Premier Jay Weatherill.
