Khawaja not fussed about IPL snubbing

Usman Khawaja says he wasn't fussed about missing out on an Indian Premier League contract and has no point to prove in the upcoming World Twenty20.

Usman Khawaja could have a golden chance at the World Twenty20 to embarrass a few Indian Premier League franchises.

But Khawaja denies he has a point to prove to any IPL coaches or administrators after being snubbed in last month's auction.

Khawaja, a Big Bash League sensation after scoring two tons for the Sydney Thunder, was fully expected to be picked up by one of the cashed-up Twenty20 franchises.

Instead he failed to attract a single bid.

Khawaja, speaking on the eve of Australia's departure to India for the World T20, suggested he wasn't concerned about the lack of interest.

"Not really," Khawaja said, when asked if he has a point to prove to IPL clubs.

"I'm not really too fussed.

"Never take it for granted, I've seen some really good players not get picked up.

"We were still playing at the time, so I wasn't trying to think about it too much.

"I'm playing for Australia in all three formats .. I'm representing my country and that's all I can ask for."

Khawaja was part of the ODI squad playing a match in Wellington when the IPL auction unfolded.

Shane Watson, who was sold for $2 million, headlines a long list of Khawaja's teammates in the World T20 squad who will stay in India after the tournament to link up with their IPL franchises.

"There's a lot of cricket coming up this year for Australia. A lot of one-dayers, a lot of Tests," Khawaja said.

"So I've got to keep my head down, hopefully stay fit. Stay on the park and the rest will take care of itself."
