Khawaja stars in Queensland cricket win

Queensland have beaten Victoria by 11 runs in the one-day cup cricket competition with Usman Khawaja starring for the Bulls and Peter Siddle for Victoria.

Queensland captain Usman Khawaja starred in his team's 11-run victory over a gallant Victoria in the domestic one-day cup on Saturday.

Queensland edged out a plucky Victoria with Khawaja scoring 85 off 97 balls in the Bulls' 6-309 at North Sydney Oval.

In reply, Victoria looked set for a massive defeat at 6-135 before a lower-order fightback.

Chris Tremain (50 off 45 balls) and Peter Siddle (62 off 45) combined for a dashing 67-run eighth-wicket partnership to restore Victoria's hopes of a heist.

However, Tremain fell in the 44th over and Victoria were bowled out for 298 in the final over despite Siddle's best efforts.

The lower-order heroics almost rescued the Bushrangers, who had a disastrous start when opener Marcus Harris was dismissed on the fourth ball of the innings and captain Cameron White departed the next over.

Wickets kept tumbling as young Victorian batsman Will Pucovski left the field after being hit in the helmet by a Ben Cutting bouncer. After passing a concussion test, the 19-year- old returned to the crease but was dismissed shortly after for five.

Queensland's match-winning total was set up by Khawaja, who returned to form with his first half-century since January as he tries to reclaim his Australian Test spot for the Ashes.

The left-hander combined with Test opener Matt Renshaw in a 149-run partnership after Victoria won the toss.

Siddle's 10 overs cost just 33 runs to continue his impressive comeback from a lengthy injury layoff.
