Kick Pearce out of NRL: Lumby

The NRL's adviser on women's issues says Sydney Roosters captain Mitchell Pearce's lewd and drunken behaviour should be career-ending.

Sydney Roosters co-captain Mitchell Pearce's NRL career should be ended because of his lewd and drunken behaviour, says the league's adviser on women's issues Catharine Lumby.

The 26-year-old halfback risks being sacked after video emerged in which he's seen to make unwanted advances to a woman and simulate a sex act with a dog on Australia Day.

Professor Lumby, who has worked pro bono with the NRL for a decade, said his behaviour should spell the end of his time in rugby league in Australia.

"I think he should be stood aside. I think this should be the end of his career," Prof Lumby told ABC News 24.

"I think you should not be able to get away with this. He's a high profile athlete, it just sends the wrong message and the NRL has to continue to show leadership on this issue."

Lumby said she believes the act with the dog was aimed at harassing the woman in the video.

"I think the whole thing was a form of harassment and disrespect towards the woman," Lumby said.

"She was asking him to leave he attempted to kiss her in a fairly aggressive manner from what I can see.

"The behaviour with the dog was aimed at her.

"It's just completely unacceptable and totally out of step with community standards."
