Treasurer Scott Morrison says it's up to the Kidman family to decide who buys their land and cattle empire.

Gina Rinehart's Hancock Group has announced its AOB consortium with Chinese partners Shanghai CRED has upped its offer to take over S Kidman and Co to $386.5 million, narrowly trumping the $386 million rival all-Australian bid by BBHO.

Mr Morrison, who has twice rejected sales of the empire to Chinese-led consortiums, said he was pleased to see a number of Australian bids.

The government could intervene in the event of foreign investment implications but may not need to take action, he told reporters in Sydney on Friday.
