Parents are being urged to stop their children playing with Ikea's Batman-styled cape after the retailer found the costume posed a risk of strangulation or neck injury.

The Swedish-based store has issued the recall for the LATTJO bat cape and says although there have been no reports of injuries requiring medical treatment, there have been reports children have been scratched while using the cape.

This happened when the cape got stuck and the neck fastening did not easily detach, it said in a statement.

People are being urged to return the capes to any Ikea store for a full refund.

Ikea issued a recall for two types of lights in February after a malfunction with the clasps that fixed them to ceilings.
