US Federal prosecutors say Kim Kardashian's white Ferrari, which was bought for her as a gift from a Malaysian businessman, was purchased with funds stolen from the Malaysian people.

Bussinessman Jho Low, who is a close ally of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, has been accused of laundering billions of dollars from a Malaysian soveriegn wealth fund.

“The white Ferrari was bought with $325,000 stolen from the people of Malaysia,” US federal prosecutors told the Independent Singapore.

The luxury car was reportedly used by Kim Kardashian as recently as last month.

The wedding gift from Malaysian businessman Jho Low in 2011 was one of the assets fought over in the subsequent divorce between Kim and Kris Humphries several months later.
US court filings describe fugitive businessman Jho Low as playing a key role in the alleged embezzlement of $4.5 billion from a Malaysian state investment fund called 1Malaysia Development Bhd (IMDB).

The Justice Department is seeking to recover assets from Mr Low that were allegedly purchased with 1MDB money.

Malaysian authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Mr Low, who is believed to be hiding in China, after he was charged with eight money-laundering charges.

Investigators suspect the charges could constitute one of the biggest financial frauds in history.

The US Justice Department has already recovered valuable gifts allegedly purchased by Jho Low with funds stolen from 1MDB, and then subsequently given to celebrities.

The items recovered include a Picasso painting gifted to actor Leonardo DiCaprio and $8 million worth of jewellery given to Australian model Miranda Kerr.
