Kings hire Joerger as NBA head coach

Dave Joerger has signed with Sacramento as their NBA head coach.

The Sacramento Kings have signed Dave Joerger as their NBA head coach just two days after he was fired by the Memphis Grizzlies.

It's been a wild 48 hours for Joerger, who will sign a reported three-year deal worth about $US4 million ($A5.4 million) annually, after the Grizzlies let him go on Saturday despite a 147-99 record and three trips to the playoffs in as many seasons.

"He is a strong and passionate leader with a proven track record of producing results," general manager Vlade Divac said in a team release.

"Dave shares our focus on creating a long-term culture of winning and I look forward to a bright future ahead for the Kings with his leadership on the court."

Joerger's hiring ends an extensive search to replace fired George Karl with a proven winner for the Kings, who have failed to make the playoffs in 10 years.
