Almost seven years after his brush with death, Sydney Kings NBL star Jason Cadee has been re-united with his guardian angel.
The Kings on Sunday will host Ida Marie Wertere, who rushed to Cadee's aid in 2010 when his car was T-boned by a semi-trailer on Sydney's M7 motorway, shattering his pelvis.
A 19-year-old at the time, Cadee awoke to find Wertere sitting by his side as emergency crews took more than two hours to cut the promising guard out of his car.
Now 25, Cadee will meet his hero for just the second time when the Kings host Wertere in Sunday's NBL match against New Zealand.
"To be honest, I actually felt a bit sick yesterday - I don't know why. It just put me in a weird place because I never thought someone would just come out of the blue after so much time," he said.
"But today, I'm really excited to have the chance to see her because I don't remember a lot about her, and thank her and welcome her to the game on Sunday."
Cadee said he was keen to piece together the developments of that fateful day in July, when his promising career flashed before his eyes.
"In retrospect, she's the only one that really knows what happened in that car, 100 per cent. I think I remember but I could be way off the mark," he said.
"So I started to think would I ask her about it, will I ask her what she does, who she is and what her life is like?
"I think I would like to know how events unfolded from how she saw it, and what she was thinking, what she thought about the whole incident."
Cadee and the Kings need a win against Brisbane on Friday to keep their season alive, before coming home to host the Breakers on Sunday.
