Canterbury forward David Klemmer will fight his contrary conduct charge for touching a referee at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night, while Brisbane centre James Roberts can escape suspension over a similar offence.

Klemmer was charged with a grade-one contrary conduct charge after making contact with referee Ben Cummins in the Bulldogs' win over Penrith at Pepper Stadium on Thursday night.

The NSW enforcer faces a two-match ban if found guilty of the offence at Rugby League Central after the Bulldogs announced their intention to fight the charge on Monday.

Roberts made contact with referee Matt Noyen in Brisbane's win over the Warriors at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.

He was cited for the incident in the match review committee charge sheet from round two released late on Monday afternoon. However he will not miss a game if he takes the early guilty plea.

Penrith duo Trent Merrin and Jamie Soward made contact with referees during round two but avoided censure.

In other charges from round two, Warriors prop Ben Matulino faces three matches on the sideline after being hit with a grade-one shoulder charge on Broncos three-quarter Corey Oates if he takes the early guilty plea.

Canberra three-quarter Joseph Leilua will be outed for three matches if he takes the early plea on two charges. The first is a dangerous throw on his Roosters opposite Shaun Kenny-Dowall, the second a contrary conduct charge in relation to a punch on Tricolours forward Dylan Napa.

Parramatta forward Manu Ma'u will miss a week if he takes the early plea on a 'crusher' tackle on North Queensland's Kyle Feldt.

Napa, Warrior Jacob Lillyman, Cowboy Matt Scott and Melbourne winger Marika Koroibete can all escape a week's ban if they take the early plea.
