Representative forward David Klemmer is set to re-sign with Canterbury on a deal that will keep him at the Bulldogs until at least the end of 2018 NRL season.

Klemmer is one of a host of stars off contract at the end of 2016 at Belmore, including Moses Mbye, Josh Jackson, Greg Eastwood and Tony Williams.

Like most clubs the Bulldogs are negotiating their way through their playing roster for the coming season amid uncertainty as to how much the salary cap will rise over the coming seasons.

Klemmer, who is expected to re-sign by the end of the month, was keen to commit to the club for a longer term, but that uncertainty prevented that.

"We are in deep discussion at the moment, it is going really well, we just have to formalise a couple of things and it should be done," Klemmer told AAP.

"I have secured my future so it is all good. I am settled here, my family loves it and I always wanted to stay."

Klemmer's signing could pave the way for the Bulldogs to put the other pieces of their salary cap puzzle together.

Both Mbye and Jackson are expected to stay, while Williams may be Super League-bound.

Eastwood's preference is to stay with the Bulldogs but he has been linked to a move to St George Illawarra and Melbourne.

In March, Sam Kasiano recommitted to the Bulldogs for three more years.

Klemmer, 22, played all three State of Origin fixtures for NSW last season and is in the frame for a return to the Australian side to for Anzac Test. He played three Tests for the Kangaroos in 2014.
