Perth paceman Andrew Tye should be considered for a recall to the Australian Twenty20 side, according to Scorchers skipper Michael Klinger.
Tye completed just the second BBL hat-trick on Wednesday night to round out a 27-run demolition of Brisbane.
And while Tye or none of his teammates realised it was a split-overs hat-trick when it happened, Klinger is all too aware of his death-bowler's ability throughout a T20 innings.
"He's not so much your new-ball bowler," Klinger said.
"But he can take pace off in the middle, bowl a good power play over and his depth bowling is excellent."
Australia will play Sri Lanka in three Twenty20s at the end of the summer.
Tye made his international T20 debut in the three-match series against India last summer.
However, he was then dropped ahead of the World T20 series in India last March.
But given the likes of Starc and Hazlewood will already be headed back to India for a Test series when this summer's T20 fixtures roll around, Klinger believes the 30-year-old should be in line for a recall.
"He definitely would have to be," he said.
"He's had a great tournament. He's a quality Twenty20 bowler and he was great again tonight."
Tye has been the first-placed Scorchers' leading wicket-taker this summer and with nine scalps he is also equal-second across the competition.
His role in the bowling attack has also increased, with fellow quicks Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff both missing due to back injuries.
With captain Adam Voges also already out with an ongoing hamstring complaint, the Scorchers were dealt another blow on the weekend when legspinner James Muirhead was ruled out for a month when he dislocated a thumb playing grade cricket.
"If you look at our squad we've been decimated," Klinger said.
"To still be in a pretty solid position after six games, we're doing a great job and really using our depth."
