A veteran captain who has bled for the club and fans that turn up every week: Newcastle have plenty to play for.
That's the opinion of Knights' NRL enforcer Beau Scott on last-placed Newcastle's motivation for finishing the season on a bright note.
Scott makes his return from a one-game suspension against fellow strugglers Gold Coast at Hunter Stadium on Saturday.
It will be Scott's third-last game at home for Newcastle before he leaves the Knights after three seasons to join Parramatta.
Also leaving Newcastle at the end of the year is one-club stalwart and captain Kurt Gidley, who joins Super League side Warrington after making his debut for the Knights in 2001.

Scott was quick to mention Gidley when the former St George Illawarra star was asked about leaving the club on a high before joining the Eels.
"There's plenty to play for ... obviously Kurt's leaving and he's been a long-serving member of the club and bled for the club over a lot of years, so we need to send him out on a bright note," Scott said on Wednesday.
"We've got a lot of things to play for, including the fans who turn up every week, especially at the home games, so we'll be doing that this weekend."
NSW back-rower Scott was banned for a tackle on Queensland captain Cameron Smith in the Origin decider and admits it was difficult watching the Knights get beaten 36-22 by Canberra last Friday.
Scott allayed any fears that a shoulder injury would prevent him from facing the Titans.
"I got through training and it will be alright for this weekend," he said.
