Australian online retailer Kogan has unveiled Australia's cheapest ultra-high-definition TV.
The 55-inch Kogan TV will go on sale for $999 from Kogan.com.au in late January.
Ultra-high-definition TVs, also known as 4K TVs, sport about four times the resolution of high-definition TVs.
However, high prices have kept them out of the reach of ordinary consumers.
Samsung, Sony and LG sell similar models for more than $3000.
Kogan founder Ruslan Kogan unveiled the TV in Las Vegas to coincide with the International Consumer Electronics Show, where a slew of new TV technology, such as curved and flexible screens, has been on display.
He said the show should not only be about technology the average person will never see or afford.
"We want to make the latest technology more affordable for everyone."
Technology analyst Foad Fadaghi, from Telsyte, said the company's research had shown that 90 per cent of people who were interested in buying an ultra-high-definition TV were deterred by the price.
He said prices would need to fall below $3000 for the TVs to become mainstream.
But a lack of ultra-high-definition content was also a problem.
Kogan said price was the "real innovation" with the TV.
"Generally it's Australians who look at prices of technology overseas with envy.
"For once, it's now the rest of the world looking to Australia, wondering when this Kogan TV will be available in their country."
Kogan also unveiled a 7.85-inch 3G Android tablet with a quad-core processor and 16GB of memory, which is available for $199.
