Kogarah fine for Dragons' match

St George Illawarra have alleviated fears about Netstrata Jubilee Stadium at Kogarah, confirming they will host South Sydney there in round two of the NRL.

St George Illawarra say their round-two NRL clash with South Sydney will go ahead as planned at Kogarah despite concerns over the playing surface.

Dragons and NRL officials inspected Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Tuesday morning ahead of next Thursday's match and told Georges River Council they were happy with the ground.

It comes after the Dragons were forced to move a pre-season trial against Newcastle to Wollongong citing a below-standard playing surface, sparking suggestions the same might need to happen for the Rabbitohs' clash.

Concerns over the ground's status were then amplified when Football Federation Australia moved two women's internationals from the ground the following week.

Kogarah has become one of the heaviest used grounds in Sydney this summer, with A-League club Sydney FC moving seven games there while Allianz Stadium is redeveloped.

The Dragons are due to play five games at Kogarah this season and five at Wollongong's WIN Stadium.

There was similar consternation over Brookvale Oval last month, while the SCG was forced to lay down 3000 square metres of ready-to-play turf this week ahead of the Sydney Roosters' season-opener against South Sydney on Friday.
