Kohlschreiber's misery at Hopman Cup

Philipp Kohlschreiber's shocking record against Igor Andreev continued as Russia levelled their Hopman Cup tie against Germany at 1-1.

Glamour girl Sabine Lisicki upset world No.5 Elena Dementieva 6-4 6-1 in a 60-minute rout to get the fifth-seeded Germans off to the perfect start before Andreev kept the tie alive with his eighth career win over world No.27 Kohlschreiber in as many meetings.

Andreev, ranked 35th in the world, defeated Kohlschreiber 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 in 128 minutes.

The Russian's powerful forehand proved too much to handle for Kohlschreiber, with the mixed doubles encounter to now decide the tie.

"I don't know, maybe it's the kind of style of his play that is more comfortable for me," Andreev said of his dominance over Kohlschreiber.

"Hopefully it continues like this with Philipp. It was a really tough match for both of us.

"We played some good points and I'm really happy to start the year with victory."

Earlier, 20-year-old Lisicki broke Dementieva twice in the opening set to race out to a 5-1 lead before the Russian hit back, closing to within 5-4.

But Lisicki steadied and closed out the set with a powerful service game.

Dementieva's own service game fell to bits in the second set and Lisicki pounced in brutal fashion, breaking her highly-fancied opponent four times in a set that lasted just 22 minutes.

Dementieva was clearly frustrated by her wayward play, with her 10th double fault of the match handing victory to Lisicki.

"I've been working really hard in the last few weeks in the off-season so I'm really happy to win that match," world No.22 Lisicki said.

"I want to get higher in the rankings. I did a great job last year so I'm looking forward to this year."

Dementieva struggled to counter Lisicki's powerful return of serve and the German said that part of her game had been a major focus in recent times.

"I've been working on it and it's getting better and better," she said. "It's great to have a weapon like that."
