Kookaburras beat India to win series

Australia have beaten India in a shoot out to seal victory in the three-match hockey series.

The Kookaburas have held their nerve to win a shoot out and seal victory in the three-match hockey Test series against India in Chhattishgarh.

India won the game 3-2 - but after Australia prevailed in the second match 2-1 following a 2-2 draw in the opening game - penalties were required.

Daniel Beale scored his effort but Sardar Singh, Trent Mitton and Akashdepp Singh all missed before Matt Ghodes put the Kookaburras 2-0 up.

Amir Khan made it 2-1 but Matthew Swann missed the chance to seal victory when his effort was saved and Birendra Lakra delighted the home crowd he levelled the scores at 2-2.

But Chris Ciriello restored the tourists' lead with a thunderous shot and Kookaburas goalkeeper Tristan Clemons then wrapped up the win when he dived full length to tip Raghunath Vokkaliga's penalty stroke around the post.

Graham Reid's side will now head to the World League Final in Raipur this weekend where they'll play their first game against Belgium on Saturday.
