Kookaburras beat Pakistan 2-1

A 56th-minute goal from Blake Govers has delivered Australia a 2-1 Champions Trophy win over Pakistan in the Netherlands.

A decisive 56th-minute deflection from Blake Govers has delivered Australia a hard fought 2-1 Champions Trophy win over Pakistan in the Netherlands.

The Kookaburras started slowly and allowed their opponents to dominate possession early in the first quarter.

Pakistan goaled in the 9th minute through Ajaz Ahmad but the Australians were quick to respond with Trent Mitton finding the back of the net with a nice deflection on the back post in the 13th.

Pakistan missed from directly in front of goal as Australia's defence showed some holes in the second quarter. Both sides continued to have opportunities but the score remained level at half-time.

The game remained locked until the 56th minute when Govers' score off an Aaron Kleinschmidt toma-hawk saw Australia gain the ascendancy.

Pakistan had a couple more opportunities but the score remained.

The win puts the Kookaburras second in their pool behind India who have won their first two games.

Australia play India next on Wednesday night AEST.
