The Kookaburras have recorded their third straight win in the Pro League, downing an understrength Spain 2-1 in Sydney.

Midfielder Daniel Beale produced the winner a minute into the final quarter on Saturday, ghosting in front of the Spanish defence to slot home.

While the Australians dominated possession and field position, their execution was far from convincing in their first match in a fortnight.

Australia now has ten points from five games while Spain has three points from four games.

Lachlan Sharp gave Australia the lead midway through the second quarter when he flicked high into the net after Jack Welch's tomahawk shot was saved.

But the visitors soon levelled against the run of play when Pau Quemada had a simple tap-in after confusion in the Australian defensive circle.

And they very nearly took the lead just before half-time, but Joan Tarres hit the post from close range after a penalty corner.

Tom Craig was dangerous in attack all game for Australia, but the final touch was lacking time and again for the world No.2 team until Beale stole in to score the winner from close range.

Goalkeeper Tyler Lovell also made a handful of crucial saves for the home team.

The Pro League has a weekly home-and-away format featuring the world's top eight teams. Australia next hosts Argentina and New Zealand in Sydney in a fortnight, while Spain play in New Zealand on Friday.

The top four teams play in the finals in Holland in June.
