The Kookaburras have crashed to a 5-2 defeat against Great Britain in Sunday's pool A Hockey World League final clash in the Indian city of Raipur.
Graham Reid's world No.1 side started slowly and found themselves 2-0 down in the opening 13 minutes after Henry Weir and Chris Grassick scored from open play.
Jeremy Hayward's penalty corner early in the second period gave the World Champions hope of a comeback but an Ian Sloan penalty corner restored Britain's two-goal advantage before David Condon made it 4-1.
Matt Ghodes cut the deficit with a tomahawk shot in the final period only for Phil Roper to cap off a memorable win for the world No.4 team.
The result leaves the Kookaburras third in Pool A, behind GB and Belgium and ahead of Canada, who they'll play in their third pool match on Wednesday morning (00:00am AEDT).
All four teams will progress to the quarter finals regardless, with pool position determining their quarter final opponents.
Reid rued several missed opportunities by his side.
"They capitalised on their opportunities and we didn't." he said.
"Every time they got in our circle they seemed to score. To their credit, GB came out ready to play but at the end of the day its a very disappointing performance. We didn't play anywhere near our best."
