Kookaburras to meet Belgium in final

Australia will face Belgium in the grand final of the World League Final hockey tournament in India on Monday morning AEDT.

The Kookaburras will play Belgium in the grand final of the Hockey World League Final after the European team beat host nation India 1-0 in their semi-final.

A solitary strike from Cedric Charlier gave Belgium the win and set up the clash with reigning world champions Australia, who beat the Netherlands a day earlier to progress to the gold-medal match.

Belgium coach Shane McLeod knows it will be a tough task to beat the No.1-ranked Kookaburras.

"They are used to the experience of playing in big finals, whereas for us it is the first time that we have been in the top four at a world-level event, and now we are in the top two, so we are really looking forward to it," McLeod said.

Kookaburras head coach Graham Reid said after beating the Netherlands 3-2 in Raipur on Saturday morning AEDT that "it wasn't pretty but we got there in the end".

"I'm happy with the result but there's lots for us to learn," he said.
