Koreas, IOC to discuss joint '32 Games bid

North and South Korea will hold discussions in February with the International Olympic Committee on continuing plans for a joint bid for the 2032 Games.

South Korea and North Korea are continuing plans for a joint bid for the 2032 Summer Games and will hold discussions early next year with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The South Korean sports ministry said on Friday the meeting would take place in Lausanne, Switzerland, on February 15 after talks between the countries at the North's border city of Kaesong.

According to South Korea's Yonhap agency, the sports ministers from both countries and members of the respective national Olympic committees will travel to Europe. A meeting with IOC president Thomas Bach is also planned.

Despite ongoing international sanctions, North Korea took part earlier this year in the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

The countries marched together at the opening ceremony and fielded a combined team in women's ice hockey.

On Friday, it was agreed to combine further teams for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics although it was not confirmed in which sports.

The 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games have already been awarded to Paris and Los Angeles.
