South Korea midfielder Ki Sung-yueng will miss the remainder of the Asian Cup after failing to recover from a hamstring injury, the Korea Football Association have said.
Ki, who has won 110 caps, suffered the injury in Korea's tournament opener against the Philippines and while the 29-year-old missed the rest of their Group C matches it was hoped he would return for Tuesday's last-16 tie against Bahrain.
However, Yonhap News reported on Monday that the Newcastle United midfielder felt a twinge during training and it was decided to drop him from the squad.
The move is likely to bring an end to Ki's international career as he had indicated his plans to retire after last year's World Cup but agreed to delay that decision until after the Asian Cup.
Ki, who will turn 30 on Thursday, posted the message: "Thank God it's finally over" on his Instagram page late on Sunday.
Two-time Asian Cup champions have not won the tournament since 1960.
