Nick Kyrgios will look to keep alive his unbeaten record against fellow next-gen star Alexander Zverev when the pair face off in the Rogers Cup third round in Canada.

Australian Kyrgios was a straight-sets winner over Italy's Paolo Lorenzi in Montreal on Wednesday, needing only 63 minutes to see off the world No.38.

The 22-year-old Kyrgios won the second-round ATP clash 6-2 6-3, firing 10 aces to Lorenzi's one and winning 96 per cent of points on his first serve.

The result continues Kyrgios' good form at the tournament after he defeated Viktor Troicki in 51 minutes in the first round.

German Zverev's path to the round of 16 was less straightforward, saving three match points against Richard Gasquet in a 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7-3) victory.

One of the match points was saved when Zverev ended a 49-shot rally with a forehand winner.

Kyrgios' only previous meetings with the 20-year-old Zverev at Miami and Indian Wells this year both resulted in wins.

But since the last clash in Miami in March, their paths have diverged.

Kyrgios was the world No.16 at the time, but a spate of injuries, poor form and erratic behaviour has resulted in his ranking dropping to 24.

Zverev, meanwhile, has improved to eight in the world from 20 having reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon and claiming ATP titles in Rome and last week in Washington.

Krygios appears to have overcome the hip and shoulder problems that had forced him retire last week in Washington and at Wimbledon in July.
