Los Angeles has named three new venues which will be used should it be successful in bringing the Olympic Games back to the city in 2024.
Long Beach, Anaheim and the Riviera Country Club were announced late on Thursday as locations by organisers, in the same week as Rome's bid was effectively ended by the withdrawal of mayoral support.
"We're very pleased to add more world-class existing venues to our fiscally responsible and innovative Games plan for 2024," LA 2024 bid chairman Casey Wasserman said:
"By relying on southern California's wealth of top sports, housing and transportation infrastructure, LA 2024 will minimise construction risk, operational struggles and costs, and can focus on providing athletes with the perfect stage to perform their best, without distraction."
Should Los Angeles be successful, handball will take place in the Long Beach Arena, a 13,500-seat facility that recently received a $US10 million ($A13 million) upgrade. BMX cycling, water polo, marathon swimming and triathlon will also take place on the beach.
The city of Anaheim will host the volleyball tournaments in the Honda Center while golf will take place at Riviera - a well-established course which has hosted three majors.
Los Angeles is looking to host the Games for the first time since 1984. Paris and Budapest remain in the running for the event which will be awarded in September 2017 by the International Olympic Committee.
