From towering basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain's hillside home to downtown's towering US Bank building, Los Angeles is putting all its landmarks online.
Officials gathered on Tuesday on the 26th floor of City Hall, itself a historic landmark, to roll out a new website called HistoricPlacesLA.org.
It is the 15-year project of The Getty Conservation Institute and city planning officials.
The effort has surveyed about 75 per cent of Los Angeles' 880,000 structures - everything from houses to office buildings to the Hollywood sign.
When it is completed next year, officials say it will catalogue every structure in town. Anyone with a smartphone can access it.
Mayor Eric Garcetti says the site will not only help city officials preserve LA's landmarks, but also make it easier for tourists to find them.
