Labor has officially endorsed Josh Wilson for the federal seat of Fremantle after dumping maritime unionist Chris Brown.

A Labor spokesman told AAP the party's national executive had met on Thursday morning and made the decision to endorse Mr Wilson, who is currently the deputy mayor of Fremantle.

Mr Brown was dumped on Thursday after it emerged he didn't disclose two convictions dating back to the 1980s.
