A Labor frontbencher hasn't given up on the idea of Labor forming government, even though Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is confident the coalition has won enough seats in the tight election.
"It is quite possible that Labor forms government after this, but there is obviously a lot of water to go under the bridge," Labor's immigration spokesman Richard Marles told Sky News on Sunday.
After pre-poll votes were added to running totals in 150 lower house seats in the early hours of Sunday morning, the coalition and Labor had each won 67 seats, the Greens one and independents four, while 11 seats were too close to call.
