Labor demands details of dole worker death

Labor MP Ed Husic has called for the government to release its report on the death of a young work for the dole participant.

The federal government insists an internal investigation into the death of a young man on a work for the dole site in Toowoomba 18 months ago will be made public.

Josh Park-Fing, 18, died from a head injury in April 2016 but the government is refusing to release details of an internal review until other investigations conclude.

"Work Health and Safety Queensland are investigating the incident," Employment Minister Michaelia Cash told reporters in Canberra on Thursday.

"They still have not finalised their report and the government does not want in any way want to prejudice the outcome of this report."

Senator Cash said the review's finding would be made public once the Queensland investigation was completed.

Labor frontbencher Ed Husic earlier called on the minister to release the review and outline what the government had done to boost workplace safety within the program since the accident.

"Michaelia Cash should front parliament today and detail exactly what has been done to improve the safety of young unemployed Australians," he said in a statement.

"Young Australians deserve a jobs program that gets them work - and does so safely."
