Labor would pay for students to serve at the Sir John Monash Centre in France, if it wins government, as a way to keep the Anzac tradition alive.

The centre will be opened on Tuesday to mark the centenary of the pivotal World War One battle at Villers-Bretonneux that claimed 2400 Australian lives.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten says the program will help ensure the spirit of the Anzac and the memories of the Diggers are instilled in the next generation of Australians.
