Labor has laughed off legal threats from a Queensland bank which says the party's "people first" slogan is too similar to its own marketing material.

Heritage Bank has reportedly sent Labor cease-and-desist notices and threatened to take the party to court unless it stops using the slogan, because customers assume there is a link to its own "people first" advertising.

That prospect was dismissed as "absurd" by Shadow Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday.

"Labor is putting people first and I thank the bank for making sure that people are aware of our slogan and I hope they continue to make people aware of our slogan," he said in Brisbane.
