Vote by vote, Labor's lead in the Victorian seat of McEwen continues to grow, but the margin remains paper thin.

Labor MP Rob Mitchell on Friday morning had extended his lead to 329 votes with 2400 votes still to count.

The Labor incumbent had trailed behind Liberal rival Donna Petrovich until Sunday, when he nosed ahead by 25 votes around 2pm (AEST).

He now has his largest lead since vote counting began.

However, there has been a swing of more than nine per cent against Labor in the seat.
