Labor likens Lib cuts to a horror massacre

Assistant treasurer David Bradbury claims the opposition's planned cuts to spending will look like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The federal opposition is planning spending cuts that will resemble the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a senior Labor MP claims.

Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury says it's time for the coalition to outline what it plans to cut from the budget before the September 7 election.

"These are not going to be surgical, measured, targeted cuts," he told Sky News on Thursday. "This is going to be something that resembles the Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

Liberal MP Bruce Billson stressed that the coalition will outline how it plans to finance its commitments with "plenty of time" before the election.

He said it was rich of Labor to call on the coalition to release its costings soon, considering the ALP released its costings the day before the election in 2010.

"We're 23 days out and apparently we're dragging the chain," Mr Billson told Sky News.

He said there was no use in the coalition releasing its costings today.

"What will you and I have to talk about for the rest of the campaign?" Mr Billson said.
