Labor has preselected journalist Malarndirri McCarthy to replace Nova Peris as the party's top Senate candidate for the Northern Territory.
Senator Peris, Australia's first female indigenous federal parliamentarian, quit during the campaign to spend more time with her family.
Ms McCarthy, who was unanimously endorsed by the ALP's national executive on Monday, is a former NT government minister, and ABC and SBS broadcaster.
