Labor releases SA education policy

South Australia's Labor government has released a new education policy ahead of the March state election.

A new Adelaide high school, more specialist schools and better integration between university-based teacher training and education services are the focus of the South Australian government's new education policy.

The 1000-student high school will allow more students living in inner-city suburbs to attend school in the heart of Adelaide.

A site is yet to be chosen with the school not scheduled to open until 2019.

Labor's policy ahead of the March state election also includes encouraging more schools to specialise in a particular academic field, a language, sports or the arts.

"Having more schools that provide a focus on a particular area means more choice for parents and students," Education Minister Jennifer Rankine said.

The state government has also proposed moving an existing high school onto a campus of the University of South Australia where many teachers are currently trained.

The shift, along with a plan to expand the school to cater for children from kindergarten to Year 12, would create a unique education experience, Ms Rankine said.
