Labor seeks crowd-funding for anti-govt ad

The opposition is calling for donations of between $10 and $100 to spread a video advertisement that takes a dig at the federal government's "ideas boom".

Labor has launched a crowd-sourced funding campaign that tells Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to "keep your ideas to yourself".

The opposition wants funding to circulate a new video advertisement online and is calling for supporters to donate between $10 and $100 to the cause.

The 50-second video takes a dig at the Turnbull government's "ideas boom", citing a proposal to increase the GST to 15 per cent and allow states to levy income tax.

"And he wants to cut all federal funding to public schools," the advertisement says.

That refers to Mr Turnbull's suggestion the Commonwealth could withdraw public school funding in exchange for handing over a proportion of income tax.

He proposed allowing the states to control the proportion of income tax and eventually levy their own taxes.

However, the idea was quickly shot down by premiers and chief ministers.

Mr Turnbull also ditched a proposal to increase the GST, despite polls showing Australians weren't strongly opposed to the idea.

Labor's ad attempts to capitalise on the abandoned ideas, while issuing a message to the prime minister.

"On second thought Malcolm, perhaps keep your ideas to yourself."

The coalition is running an ideas boom advertisement, which promotes the Turnbull government's innovation and science agenda.
