Labor seeks to introduce donation ban bill

The federal opposition will seek to introduce legislation to ban foreign donations after the Sam Dastyari scandal.

Federal Labor will seek to introduce legislation to ban foreign donations when parliament resumes in October.

Senior Labor figure Stephen Conroy has given notice that he'll seek to introduce the private bill on October 10 to ban foreign donations and improve donation transparency and accountability.

It comes after colleague Sam Dastyari was forced to resign from Labor's frontbench after allowing a Chinese donor to pay his personal debts.
