Labor slams wind commissioner salary

Labor frontbencher Mark Butler says reports of a $600,000 salary for the new wind farm commissioner is a shocking waste of money.

Labor has slammed reports the Turnbull government's wind farm commissioner will be paid more than $600,000 in his three-year term.

Fairfax Media has obtained details of commissioner Andrew Dyer's contract for monitoring the wind industry and responding to community complaints about turbine noise and health effects.

Labor environment spokesman Mark Butler said in a statement on Sunday it was a "shocking waste of money" at a time when the government refused to appoint a full-time disability discrimination commissioner.
