Lalor residents reflect on Gillard's fall

Julia Gillard has held the Victorian seat of Lalor since 1998. Now that she won't run again, how do its residents feel?

Allan Raskall spent the day in former Prime Minister Julia Gillard's Victorian seat of Lalor.

While constituents there were digesting news of her demise, they also reflected on her performance running the country and their local area.

Ms Gillard has held the largely working class seat of Lalor since 1998 with a margin of 22 percent.

While Labor battles to save itself in heartland seats like Lalor, it's in for the fight of its life in the country's most marginal seat: Corangamite in South West Victoria, which it holds by 0.4 percent.
