Langdon goal gives Dockers win over 'Pies

A goal after the siren from Ed Langdon has given Fremantle a two-point AFL pre-season victory over Collingwood at a hot Rushton Park in Mandurah.

An Ed Langdon goal after the siren has given Fremantle a two-point AFL pre-season victory over Collingwood in hot conditions at Mandurah's Rushton Park.

The 'Pies were in control leading by 18 points eight minutes into the third quarter before the Dockers got rolling with six consecutive goals to be 15 points up at the last change.

Collingwood responded and appeared set to win after Mason Cox's third goal with three minutes remaining.

Fremantle had one last forward thrust with Stephen Hill finding Langdon, who drilled the goal from just inside-50. That secured the 1.11.12 (87) to 1.12.4 (85) victory.

The Hill brothers were terrific for Fremantle with Stephen finishing with 29 possessions and former Hawthorn premiership star Bradley 20, along with two goals, including a super goal.

Aaron Sandilands returned for Fremantle and was imposing in the ruck with 15 touches and 20 hit outs while also kicking a goal.

He had a good battle with Brodie Grundy who had 16 disposals and 16 hit outs for Collingwood.

David Mundy had 24 possessions for the Dockers, Cameron Sutcliffe 21, new captain Nat Fyfe 19 and best and fairest winner Lachie Neale 18.

Michael Walters kicked three goals and Jonathon Griffin two. Joel Hamling also impressed in defence.

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon liked what he saw in terms of his leaders standing up and a young player like Langdon grabbing his moment.

"To see the passion of Ed Langdon at the end, to go through that and be serious about it, and capitalise and then enjoy that moment was indicative of where we're at," Lyon said.

"We are a young, passionate group and we are being well led at the minute by some experienced players."

Jeremy Howe (24 possessions, nine marks and a super goal) dominated across half-back for Collingwood with Cox an imposing figure up forward.

Brodie Grundy battled hard in the ruck while Taylor Adams racked up 24 touches, Scott Pendlebury 19 and Adam Treloar 16.

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley felt his side were a work in progress and needed to sort out their work at the bounce.

"The centre bounce was clearly an issue and it does put your back six under a fair bit of pressure having to redeem the ball and then move it forward," Buckley said.

"We gave up too many turnovers in our back half and were scored against mostly from back half turnovers for the second week in a row. That is something we are going to continue to work on."

The only injury concern was a potential rib injury to Fremantle recruit Shane Kersten.

The Dockers face Carlton at Domain Stadium on Friday while the Magpies take on Richmond in Moe on Saturday.
