Justin Langer sees no reason the white-ball form of Western Australian pair D'Arcy Short and AJ Tye can't translate to the Sheffield Shield, with the coach hinting both will return to play key roles for the Warriors.
While both have enjoyed success in the shorter formats for Australia in recent weeks, neither is yet to establish themselves at Shield level.
Langer hinted he was prepared to give both a chance at home from Saturday against Victoria, as fifth-placed WA cling to hope of another Shield title.
Both are in the Warriors' 15-man squad, alongside fellow internationals Marcus Stoinis and Ashton Agar.
"He hasn't played much Shield cricket before, but he hasn't been an established Australian player before, has he?" Langer quipped of Tye, who was a regular this season in the one-day and T20 national sides.
"What a year he's had and he'll bring his experience and certainly be discussed and I'd be surprised if he doesn't play."
Despite dominating at the top in the Big Bash and recent T20 tri-series, Short has been picked primarily to bowl left-arm legspin in previous Shield games and has batted in the lower order.
Langer hopes he brings that form to red-ball cricket and carves out a permanent spot at the Warriors.
"Confidence is an amazing thing; I'm sure D'Arcy Short's a lot different person after the last 11 weeks.
"The ball doesn't know if you're meant to be a white-ball or red-ball player; there's no reason they can't be good at both of them."
Despite sitting fifth, the Warriors are just under seven points behind leaders Queensland, with all six states separated by less than nine points.
Fellow T20 stars Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell will return for Victoria at the WACA, with Finch replacing Test squad member Peter Handscomb as captain.
Fringe Test spinner Steve O'Keefe will return from a leg injury for NSW against Tasmania for their Shield clash, starting on Saturday.
O'Keefe, who was hurt on January 1 in an innocuous fielding mishap during a Big Bash game, will replace injured quick Mickey Edwards at the SCG.
Tigers tweakers Jarrod Freeman and Mac Wright will travel to Sydney and are a chance to make their Shield debuts.
Australian quartet Alex Carey, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa and Travis Head are all back for South Australia's home clash with an unchanged Queensland.
The Blues (27.54) are third on the Shield ladder, just under five points behind first-placed Queensland (31.92), with Tasmania (29.14) second.
