Lanning, Perry secure ODI win over NZ

Captain Meg Lanning and allrounder Elysse Perry have produced big, unbeaten knocks to steer Australia to victory in the second women's ODI in New Zealand.

Big guns Meg Lanning and Elysse Perry stood up when it counted as Australia crushed hosts New Zealand in the second women's one-day international to keep their three-match series alive.

With their team in danger of surrendering the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1999, skipper Lanning and allrounder Perry both responded with big, hard-hitting innings on Monday.

The Southern Stars had failed to chase down 203 in Saturday's first ODI loss at the same venue - Mt Maunganui's Bay Oval.

But Lanning was not about to let it happen again as she hit an unbeaten 114 from 113 deliveries - her seventh ODI century - and her team passed the White Ferns' 9-206 with nine overs and eight wickets in hand.

Perry backed her captain up with 64 not out off 85 balls.

Earlier, New Zealand had positioned themselves to heap pressure on the visitors after seasoned middle order pair Suzie Bates (61) and Sophie Devine (67) scored half centuries.

South Australian pace bowler Megan Schutt had the Kiwis reeling early with a double wicket maiden in the fourth over and finished with 2-25 from 10 overs while Jess Jonassen claimed the excellent figures of 5-50.
