Large croc trapped in WA's north

A 3.75-metre crocodile has been trapped by wildlife officers near the town of Broome, in WA's Kimberley.

A large crocodile that had been approaching fishing boats near Broome in Western Australia's Kimberley has been trapped by wildlife officers.

It took a team of five men to wrangle the 3.75-metre reptile into a truck after it was trapped in Crab Creek about 10km from Broome on Friday.

There were fears the crocodile was beginning to pose a threat to people fishing near the creek.

District wildlife officer Peter Carstairs said while crocodiles can grow up to six metres, the male was the largest he had ever seen in Broome.

"Certainly around Broome, its the largest one that we've trucked out of here," Mr Carstairs told AAP.

The crocodile was caught in a trap before several wildlife officers cautiously worked to secure its jaws and tie its powerful hind legs before transporting it to a wildlife park.

"Its always a bit nerve wracking, especially when you're working with a lot of other people," Mr Carstairs said.
