Lydia Lassila has been upstaged by fellow Australian Danielle Scott in her return to the international aerial skiing circuit in the United States.
In her first appearance in three years, former Olympic gold medallist Lassila finished sixth at the World Cup event at Lake Placid in New York on Saturday.
Scott maintained her lead at the top of the women's aerial leaderboard after the second World Cup round with a second placing behind American Ashley Caldwell.
It was a positive day for the Australian contingent with Scott, Lassila, Laura Peel (fifth) and Samantha Wells (12th) all making it through qualification and into the 12-strong final.
Lassila, a gold medallist in Vancouver in 2010 and bronze medallist in Sochi in 2014, was feeling upbeat after her return and looking forward to the next event at Deer Valley in Utah.
"I'm happy I did enough to make the super final, but not super excited," Lassila said.
"I overstretched in the super final. It's just a little error - not reading the conditions well enough, but I'm happy with the quality and slowly building."
Lassila finished behind Peel with a score of 61.68
After contemplating retirement, the 34-year-old mother of two is attempting to become the first Australian to qualify for five Winter Olympics.
